Keely Hodgkinson Concludes Season with Winning Performance at Athlos in New York
The athlete achieved her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in London.
The Olympic champion concluded her two-lap campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.
{The reigning Olympic champion, who earned bronze at the global championships recently, excelled in an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a muscle issue.
Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Bell finished second again in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.
"I've barely raced this year so it was likely less of a struggle for me to go out there and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.
"The environment at the event is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The female-exclusive event filled Icahn Stadium in its second year, introducing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with live music and special crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the winners with their crowns.
Last year's winners received $60,000 (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.
The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.
American Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, won the sprint double.
