The Actress Says Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Dividing the Nation Apart
The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer fitting to comment publicly countering the Trump administration, concerned it could intensify polarizing arguments and further divisions throughout the United States.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says Jennifer Lawrence
During a discussion, she reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, celebrities fail to influence in any way on voter decisions.”
Lawrence added, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on an issue that’s going to heighten conflict dividing the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about supporting conservative and liberal candidates throughout her life. Raised by conservative Republicans in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in the 2008 election then moving to the Democratic party and revealing she realized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was undermining her individual liberties as a woman.
Past Statements
Several years ago, she commented that Trump winning the presidency might signal “a disaster” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she voiced her backing to Vice President Harris, “as I believe she’s an amazing candidate and I trust that she will make every effort to protect reproductive rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
The star was aligned with most of Hollywood in her opposition to Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence celebrities have over the public choices was highlighted by his election win.
“Another four years feels different,” commented Lawrence regarding Trump’s presidency. “Since he made his plans clear. We understood his record for four years. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
The actor is currently promoting Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she portrays a recent parent who faces challenges with her psychological well-being in the countryside. At a media event for the project in the film festival, the star addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s devastating. What’s happening is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Additional Thoughts
She continued by expressing that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the discourse of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the kids today. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”
Lawrence aimed to shift outrage about the conflict to policymakers rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on the people in charge,” she advised, seen by observers as a nod to the then-recent pledge endorsed by thousands of arts community members to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Individual Insights
Lawrence, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her role in the acclaimed film, is receiving praise for her performance in the new film. Although Lynne Ramsay has denied the narrative being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, Lawrence shared that she connected with elements of her film narrative after the birth of her youngest child, shortly after production wrapped.
“There was concern for my son,” she explained, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a drug called the prescription and I continued it for two weeks and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
Lawrence also discussed regarding the freeing requirement of completing nude scenes in the film while she was some months pregnant and couldn’t work out.
“It feels nice,” she remarked, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “Truly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What technically are the differences between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
